Drake's 'Scorpion' album to potentially feature DJ Premier
The next few months are going to be particularly busy for the 6 God as Drake gears up to release his next album, Scorpion, in June, and prepares to hit the road for his much-hyped joint tour with Migos, the Aubrey & the Three Amigos Tour.
Up until this point, little has been revealed concerning Scorpion, other than its title, and its impending summer arrival. Drake knows that the “power of the mind is not a joke,” with the Toronto powerhouse artfully using the power of suggestion in the album’s lead up. Drake recently posted a series of images of fellow industry fixtures like DJ Khaled and Stranger Things’ Millie Bobby Brown wearing the album’s promo jacket. Drake additionally shared an image of hip-hop’s scratch master, DJ Premier, and the legendary producer’s chest bedecked with a scorpion emoji.
The emoji doesn’t necessarily confirm that DJ Premier will receive direct credit on Scorpion, but it’s no secret that Drake has wanted to work with Primo for quite some time, since the Take Care days, to be exact. Premier quoted Drake saying “Yo next album I want to do some stuff [with you],” but noted that was “pretty much the end of it” in Vibe back in 2010.
More information regarding the specifics of those involved with the production on Scorpion will presumably surface as June nears, but the possibility of a DJ Premier accreditation should surely drum up some excitement among Drake fans in the meantime.
