Gottwood Festival returned last weekend (7th to 10th June 2018) for a celebration of the best electronic music surrounding the UK’s house and techno scene. Nestled in the Welsh forest of Carreglwyd under a canopy of trees, the leafy festival site is famously one of the most beautiful in the UK, hosting stages surrounding a spectacular lake in the centre of the grounds.
The weekend was graced with sunshine from Thursday right through to Sunday and was soundtracked by names including Hunee, Palms Trax, Andrew Weatherall, Zip, Jackmaster, Craig Richards, Willow, Binh, Nicolas Lutz and many more. Live sets from Romare and Rodriguez Jr. also shook the natural surroundings.
On Thursday night, Jackmaster’s cheeky spin of Artwork’s ‘Let Go Of My Acid’ was a highlight, while Dutch DJ don Job Jobse rounded off the first day with a fun set featuring ABBA and Dead or Alive’s ‘You Spin Me Round’.
On Friday Paul Woolford featured twice, once under his d&b and jungle-focused moniker Special Request, as well as under his Paul Woolford alias. His Special Request midday set at the Trigon stage was particularly epic, while later on Axel Boman supplied some serious grooves over in Ricky’s Disco.
On Saturday, the standout track from Ben UFO’s excellent set was LSDXOXO’s ‘Burn The Witch’ — thanks to the tune’s bouncing breaks and sassy vocals.
