Exclusive: Matrix & Futurebound captivate with ‘Spellbound’ ahead of second LP release

Fans have long awaited Matrix & Futurebound‘s sophomore LP. It’s been more than 12 years since release of their debut Universal Truth album, which hit the airwaves on April 9, 2007. The wait for a new body of work has finally come to an end, though, with the forthcoming release of Mystery Machine, a joint release on both duo counterparts’ labels, Viper and Metro Recordings.

Fans will quickly identify several of the LP’s tracks, which have been released over the years as singles, like 2014’s chart-topping “Control” and 2018’s “Believe,” which kicks off the album. They also ramped up for the album’s release in the early months of 2019 with the release of “Got You There” in February. Additionally, tucked in amidst an array of originals are remixes the duo has composed of their own songs, like a “smoke and mirrors mix” of “Live Another Day” and a “cheap thrills mix” of “Happy Alone.”

A song fans won’t have previously heard is “Spellbound,” which sits pretty in the fourth slot on the album. The duo has tapped Grammy-winning vocalist Polina for a truly captivating drum & bass number. “Spellbound” grabs the listener’s attention from the get-go, drawing them in with an infectious background melody and Polina’s compelling vocals. As the song climbs toward the impending drop, its anthemic qualities build. Polina’s flawless voice soars over an impeccably produced bed of synth melodies, adding in just the right amount of bass to complete the sound.

The 17-track Mystery Machine LP is out in full April 12. Pre-order your copy here.
