Cassius member Philippe 'Zdar' Cerboneschi has passed away
The French electro scene lost one of its most highly regarded members on Wednesday night. Cassius member Philippe “Zdar” Cerboneschi “fell accidentally out the window of a high rise building,” told the pair’s representative to the AFP (Associated French Press). No further details have been disclosed.
Condolences have started trickling in, with A-trak and Chromeo taking to Twitter to express their sadness. “Music lost a genius tonight,” quoted M. Farran in a statement to press. Cerboneschi was 50 years old.
Cassius are one of France’s earliest composers and purveyors of the disctinctive electro style that led to their country’s dominance in the music market. Regulars on Ed Banger and beyond, and remixers for the likes of Daft Punk, Björk, and Depeche Mode, the duo have made an unforgettable mark in dance music history over their two decades of existence. Cerboneshi has also produced for Phoenix, Cat Powers, and other notable crossover acts.
The duo had a new album due on June 21, Dreems. Word remains as to whether or not it will release on schedule after this event.
This story is still developing.
