Woodstock 50 looks for somebody to give peace a chance as the festival seeks a venue just 30 days out.
Woodstock 50 seems to be in its 11th hour as the town of Vernon, NY has unanimously rejected the event’s appeal to a denied permit application earlier this week. This leaves the peace, love, and music festival without a confirmed or even working venue just a month before its scheduled date.
Things went from (really) bad to (much) worse when Virgin Produced, who has recently been in an advisory position quickly cut ties with the festival after the unanimous vote.
“Woodstock will always be remembered as an iconic moment in history,” said Virgin Produced CEO Jason Felts in a public statement. “Despite our formidable effort to assist Michael Lang and the Woodstock 50 ownership in resurrecting their NY festival, it has become apparent that time has expired.”
Festival organizer Michael Lang was not optimistic with Woodstock 50’s prognosis from here, stating to The Poughkeepsie Journal that “if it doesn’t work this year, it doesn’t work this year. We’ve tried everything we can. We’ve done our best.”
Woodstock 50 was originally slated to take place in Watkins Glen, NY, Aug 16-18. Nearly 65,000 attendees were expected after the festival announced a lineup featuring The Black Keys, Dead & Company, Miley Cirus and Santana in March of this year.
