“Underplayed” Exposes The Existing Chauvinism In The EDM Arena

The newly released documentary directed by Stacey Lee explores the issue of systematic sexism in the Electronic Dance Music scene.

Throughout the documentary, major names like Rezz, Nervo, and Nightwave appear to share their personal struggles while cementing their professional careers.

The trailer of the documentary states that only five female DJs made it to the top 100, according to statistics from 2019. It also mentions that the highest-paid DJs are all males.

Although the documentary was released in 2020, we by this article urge everyone who missed the chance of watching it to do so now. “Underplayed” also explores the injustices in the EDM culture resulting from racial and sexual differences.

The documentary is available on several streaming services like Apple TV, YouTube, Amazon Prime, and Google Play.
