Massive Attack’s Daddy G remixes Lee Perry’s ‘100lbs of Summer’

Massive Attack member, Daddy G, and the skilled team at West Country’s Robot Club have revived ‘100lbs Summer’, a collaboration between legendary dub reggae pioneer Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry and Greentea Peng. This reimagined version is now available through False Idols, adding a new facet to Perry’s rich musical legacy.

The album’s flagship track, ‘100lbs Summer’, has been gaining momentum on BBC 6 Music and various streaming platforms, showcasing the enduring appeal of Perry’s unique style. Perry’s influence, first exemplified in his initial recording ‘The Chicken Scratch’, spans over six decades and multiple music genres.

Perry’s decade-long partnership with Daniel Boyle led to the Grammy-nominated ‘Back On The Controls’ and the 2019 ‘Black Album.’ Recorded at Abbey Road, the latter underlines Perry’s significance in dub and roots reggae. His tribute album ‘King Perry’ showcases his innovative production and sampling talents, charting his transition from artist to producer with the Upsetters at Studio One. His role in Bob Marley’s success and the foundation of Black Ark studios affirm his enduring influence.
