Driftmoon x Ruben de Ronde x 88Birds Team Up for “Colour Of Your Eyes”

To say the last twelve months have spelt change for Driftmoon might be the electronic music understatement of the year. In that time, the act’s gone from being an ‘I’ back to a ‘We’, with Miikka Leinonen rejoining Driftmoon’s other founder member Juraj Klička. After seven years apart, the much fan-cheered reunification has clearly become not just a force multiplier, but also a force for their change.

With a 2024 album on the rise (Driftmoon’s first since Remember The Night in 2019), they’ve been equalising their classically melodic sound with more atypical fare. And none more so perhaps than last month’s metal guitar-led climate polemic, “Earth Song”.

For its follow up, the Finnish/Slovak duo are joined by one of the most recognizable faces in the industry, Ruben de Ronde. Known for his melodic production approach, through successful releases like “Bloodstream”, “The Distance” and “Oxygen” (alongside 88Birds), Ruben’s become one of the progressive genre’s leading lights. Today Driftmoon and Ruben de Ronde reconnect with 88Birds, a singer-songwriter renowned for her artistry, and collectively on “Colour Of Your Eyes” the quartet have gifted early summer a genuine anthem to embrace

Artistically, “Colour Of Your Eyes” falls somewhere between the album’s earlier vanguard singles (“Bliss” “Prime Example”, and “Falling”) and “Earth Song.” It cruises beatifically from port, caught on a tide of rolling beats, undulating bass and FX-infused coastal atmospheres. Juraj, Miikka and Ruben frame the track in a progressive manner, never letting one of its exceptional sounds, sequences or elements overpower another. “Colour Of Your Eyes” song meanwhile sees 88Birds shift deftly between the edgy Bjorkian provocations of her verses and its sweetly harmonised chorus. “Colour Of Your Eyes” is out now on all mayor streaming platforms.
