Australian producer 1tbsp explores urban landscapes and societal challenges in his latest project, ‘Megacity1000’. This concept album delves into the complexities of modern city life, offering a distinct blend of electronic music styles that defy easy categorization.

1tbsp has been building anticipation over the past few months with a series of infectious indie-house singles. These include ‘Starchitect’, ‘Limosina’ (featuring Cherry Chola), ‘The City Never Felt So Good’, ‘MC1k’, and ‘Oh No’. These releases have set the stage for ‘Megacity1000’.

“‘Megacity1000’ is a concept dance album that I put together over the last year. I’ve been really fascinated and intimidated by the problems that my generation are starting to face around expanding population growth, climate change & gentrification,” explains 1tbsp. “The promotion of the album (ironically pro-capitalistic) follows the arc of building the city, trying to bring on investors & entice people to move, and then ultimately the city failing.”

For the album’s visuals, 1tbsp and his partner spent two months constructing a cardboard city. This project drew inspiration from classic films like ‘Playtime’ (1967) b ‘Metropolis’ (1928), as well as modern urban projects like The Line in Saudi Arabia.

1tbsp, whose real name is Maxwell Byrne, is also known for his Grammy-nominated work as Golden Vessel. His sound as 1tbsp has been compared to a fusion of Mura Masa, Jamie xx, and jamesjamesjames, highlighting his versatility as an artist.
