Anna Lunoe lays down a scorching score to the 'Right Party' on latest EP [Review] – EDM All Day
Besides being a relatively new mother to her toddler, Willa, the Australian-born Anna Lunoe is also a diligent and tactful mother of dance beats. The HYPERHOUSE heroine’s twofold finesse both behind the decks and in the studio has earned her accolades in the form of a Skrillex-championed OWSLA signing, collaborations with dance music majesty like Chris Lake and Flume, as well as her watershed billing as the first-ever female solo act to take the EDC Vegas main stage under siege in 2016.
In the “Stomper” sponsor’s latest display of dance-floor irreverence, Lunoe has shared her four-part aural road map to the Mad Decent-housed Right Party. The EP is an all-out Lunoe-powered affair, complete with her own get-down-friendly vocal cuts, which encircle her galloping bass lines like the designated painfully cool girl compelling the party like child’s play (“Follow me / I’ll take ya’ to the right party”).
The previously released cuts from the EP, “303” and “What You Need,” featuring Wuki, arrive alongside two brand new offerings, “Right Party” and “Creep.” While “Creep” adds to the festivity’s more texturized foliage, with its crowded-party-themed chatter samples and squawky analog melodies, “What You Need” wastes no time reaching its raucous objective, with a teeth-grinding-reminiscent (in the most mellifluous way possible) bass line and slapping percussion to boot. And perhaps the most delectable of the four-course meal is “303,” which sees Eminem’s iconic “Without Me” vocal hook morphed and molded to fit Lunoe’s devilishly danceable agenda (“This looks like a job for me / So, everybody just follow me / If you want to get a little tipsy / We can dance to the beat of the 303”).
The EP is less of a dramatic departure than it is a coquettish dose of sonic experimentation within the household mode she’s already explored so voraciously. If there was any ambivalence remaining as to whether or not Lunoe can command a dance floor with the same ease and ferocity as John Bonham can bang a drum, there shouldn’t be after attending the Right Party.
