At long last, SebastiAn's second studio LP, 'Thirst,' has arrived [stream]
A widespread Thirst for new SebastiAn has officially been quenched. The Frenchman’s second studio album, preceeding by 2011’s Total, arrives on his usual home of Ed Banger, clocking in at seventeen tracks total. Thirst has been teased since March of 2019, when SebastiAn officially announced it through the Gallant-assisted “Run For Me.” Gallant isn’t the only notable collaborator on the extensive project; SebastiAn also tapped the talents of Syd, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Allan Kingdom, and more.
SebastiAn’s latest project manages to refine his sound even more, telling a tense, almost dystopian story across distorted synthesis, minor keys, and plenty of French funk elements added in. The album isn’t completely shrouded in darkness, however; “Time To Talk” offers up a cheerier soundscape, as does the 80s-inspired “Handcuffed To A Parking Meter.” “Devoyka” targets the heartstrings with its sweeping orchestral arrangement.
Between his two album projects, SebastiAn’s been hard at work boosting his profile among the musicians’ elite. In 2016, he notably worked on Frank Ocean’s Blonde. He also scored Romain Gavras film, The World Is Yours, alongside Jamie xx.
