Au5 (real name, Austin Collins) has been wielding his atmospheric dubstep and bass music of all varieties since his training as a classical pianist led him to study electronic production as a teenager. His transcendent sea of releases is brimming with Monstercat‘s emblem, though until now he had been releasing elsewhere and independently for a few years’ hiatus from the imprint.
His latest track and reacquaintance with the Canadian label, “The Journey,” illuminates Au5’s tender tendencies. With steady metronome clicks, pensive piano chords, and Trove’s delicate vocals, the song takes its rightful place alongside Monstercat’s extensive catalog of dreamy downtempo. However, the track is not deficient of its fair share of vigor, exploding into a sun burst of jaunting chillstep around the two-minute mark.
