ANNIE, GET YOUR GONG!
The Queen Radio 1 has been thriving, with more airtime on the airwaves and more AMP gigs all across the nation…
‘It’s Annie!!! And you’re tuned into the ficial start to the weekend!’ Now those are the words we like to hear, on a Friday night, blasting out the radio, from the station that embraces the commercial world most the time, only to give massive props to our scene the rest the time.
It’s no surprise that Annie Mac has won the Best Of British award for her Dance Show on Radio 1 — her weekly party-starter on the airwaves provides the kind listening material to get you right in the mood, and bring you up to date with all that is wonderful, high-energy and fresh in the world dance releases and stuff coming up for your diary.
Her success is undoubtedly due to her uncanny knack being able to take some the ‘biggest bangers’ from the scene and mix them between remixes that are, in her words, ‘so ridiculous’. Throw in a few ‘old classics’ and a host seriously hot tunes you didn’t even know you needed to hear, and her show has a magic formula.
Inevitably she has been responsible for breaking the likes Disclosure, Clean Bandit and Duke Dumont, propelling them to further stardom, while helping to keep their toes dipped in the party scene by supporting them along the way. And her unique skill is that ability to furnish listeners with an audio experience that can appeal to most but also make you feel like it’s just for your ears.
Amazingly, it was back in 2009 that she first snagged the prime, coveted slot from Pete Tong — and the fit was perfect. Annie presents in an upbeat style with down-to-earth tones that pull you in and ignite a feeling ‘come on, let’s go out!’. Regular features like the ‘Mini-Mix’, that basically does what it says on the tin, and ‘hottest record’ help to suck you into a show that’s now in its seventh year, thankfully without any sign letting up.
She’s ten on the road, DJing for her hugely successful AMP (Annie Mac Presents) parties or simply holding her own on the bill, in peak slots at parties and festivals across the globe. Go for it Annie! HELENE STOKES
