Bose launches line of audio sunglasses, Bose Frames
For its latest forward-thinking product, Bose had a precise vision: sunglasses with the ability to play music and answer phone calls. They created a line of audio sunglasses, called Bose Frames, which are currently limited to two styles, the Bose Frames Rondo and the Bose Frames Alto. Both retail for a cool $199.95 and come equipped with open-ear audio for music and an integrated microphone that can field phone calls. Bose AR, which the manufacturer touts as a “first-of-its-kind” audio augmented reality platform, enables these functionalities.
Although sound bleed might appear a natural concern, Bose proclaims that wearers will hear “rich, immersive sound, while others hear practically nothing.” The narrow direction of the sunglasses’ sound stems from their inclusion of custom speakers that channel sound to the wearer and away from others. Motion sensors embedded inside the frames detect the user’s head orientation and body movement to help guide sound flow.
As far as design goes, Bose promises purchasers durability nylon rims, lenses that aren’t susceptible to easy scratching or shattering, and metal hinges. Those interested in uniquely merging two key senses—sight and hearing— Bose Frames can view the audio sunglasses on Bose’s website.
