Childish Gambino releases ‘Guava Island,’ starring Rihanna
Childish Gambino and Rihanna‘s new movie, Guava Island, has arrived Amazon Prime. During Coachella, the flick premiered at a Guava Island-themed set and played across all three stages. It also played on Coachella’s YouTube live stream Saturday night.
The film is directed by Hiro Murai, who directed the Grammy Award-winning “This Is America” music video along with numerous episodes of Atlanta, further building anticipation for the star-studded love affair. Rihanna plays a character named Kofi who falls in love with a singer, Deni, portrayed by Donald Glover (Chilidsh Gambino) himself. Deni begins to gain fame, dealing with the business woes and politics of throwing a festival. During the film, Glover’s character even perform’s Childish Gambino’s “This is America” and “Feels Like Summer.” He also sings a new song called “Red’s Cargo.”
Billed as “A Childish Gambino Film,” the film’s distribution method and release teasers through Amazon Prime are certainly derived from the creative mind of the renaissance artist.
