Renowned DJ, Paul Spencer, known professionally as Dario G, passed away on 17th June, 2024. Recognized as the creator of ‘Sunchyme’, he was battling stage 4 rectal cancer. His death was confirmed through a social media post highlighting his significant musical legacy.
Spencer demonstrated remarkable strength and hope during his illness, even thanking his supporters on social media after a hospital stay. He was transparent about his cancer battle since his diagnosis a year ago. In a noble act, he released a charity single, ‘Savour The Miracle of Life’, in December 2023, the proceeds of which were contributed to Macmillan Cancer Support.
Paul Spencer was part of the original Dario G trio that started in Crewe, Cheshire in 1997, alongside Scott Rosser and Stephen Spencer. Their debut single, ‘Sunchyme’, scaled the UK singles charts, placing at No. 2. Another hit, ‘Carnaval de Paris’, gained fame as a 1998 FIFA World Cup anthem.
Even after the departure of other members, Spencer carried on the Dario G legacy, releasing ‘Hola’ in 2020. His music and legacy continue to impact lives positively.
