It’s been nothing short of a revered year for deadmau5, since he pulled back the curtain on here’s the drop, the mau5trap overlord’s follow-up from his 2018 album, where’s the drop?. Alongside the recent release, he’s been on the road for his cube v3 tour. Those who’ve seen the artist perform live on the tour know how cemented it is in original music. But the ever-surreptitious producer has also been saturating his shows in unreleased singles.
One from the tour trove is the seven-minute “Satrn,” out today. “Satrn” has a cinematic opening that meticulously builds with synth-laden crescendos and cinematic fury. Steady beat and pulsing basslines carry the track forward. Each third of the track has its own distinct style, but, a master of his craft, the producer finds a way to subtly weave accents from previous thematics into a cohesive whole.
As the year comes to a close, the artist will expectedly continue to release his cube v3-inspired works. “Satrn” is cause for both celebration and anticipatory toil.
