Defqon.1 has been cancelled indefinitely
Hardstyle hakken crews across Australia are reeling with the news that the long standing dance music festival Defqon. 1 has been postponed indefinitely.
The popular festival that caters to hardstyle music fans came under scrutiny after mainstream media brewed a publicity storm after the passing away of two patrons at the event last year from drug overdoses.
Defqon.1 opted to postpone indefinitely after the Regatta Centre – which is owned by the NSW government – in Penrith withdrew it’s support for the festival leaving the organisers stranded for locations to move things forward for September. On top of that, the festival was classified as “high risk” under the state government’s expensive and destructive new licensing scheme which came into effect this year.
Labor Party’s opposition spokesman for music John Graham has launched an inquiry into the new laws stating, “The inquiry will allow the festival industry to come and put their case directly to members of parliament and propose a new approach,”. Whether the Liberal party government responds positively to this inquiry remains to be seen!
