Dexter's Beat Laboratory Vol. 105

Dexter’s Beat Laboratory is a weekly collection of songs from DA managing editor Robyn Dexter. With a taste that can only be described as eclectic — to say nothing of a name that lends itself to punnery — DA is happy to present a selection of tracks personally curated by Dexter for your listening pleasure.

Pauline Herr has truly been thriving in 2019, producing everything from a cover of “Skinny Love” to her newest original, “Long Gone.” The single simmers with the passion of love lost, and Herr’s emotive vocals tug at listeners’ heartstrings from the first words.

These are exciting times to be a Fox Stevenson fan. The producer just announced his debut LP, killjoy, set to arrive Oct. 18. Among the 13 tracks is his latest single, “Hold Steady,” which shows how the artist has honed his sound over the years to find a voice that’s all his own.

Haywyre‘s music takes many different forms, so each release is a new experience. In his latest, he’s “exploring some of the darker themes for the next chapter of Panorama,” he said in the track’s description. “I was expressing the frustrations I felt for disappointing myself and others around me, and it ended up giving me more confidence to make better decisions.”

Horn masters Brasstracks have teamed up with vocalist Kyle Dion for a slow-grooving new original, “Professional.” The New York City-based duo call this tune “the beginning of a new chapter,” and what an exciting first chapter it is. It’s effortlessly funky, soulful, and filled to the brim with talent.

Drum ‘n’ bass heavyweights Camo & Krooked never seem to sleep, churning out quality tune after quality tune on labels like Hospital Records. The Austrian duo teamed up with Mefjus for their newest piece of work, taking drum ‘n’ bass to new heights with this unpredictable new tune.
