Digitalism 'paints with music' on new 'JPEG' album

German electro duo Digitalism are back with their first full-length release since 2016’s Mirage. Titled JPEG, Digitalism tweeted the motivation behind the album’s title, explaining that, “JPEG — a picture — represents the way we see our artistic output: We paint with music.”

Throughout JPEG, Digitalism do well to vary the genres and mood of the album without compromising their sonic identity. The emotionally charged guitar-laden track “Infinity” is immediately followed by “Voltage,” which opens with an electro boom-bap inspired beat. The transition between tracks is sharp, but the Digitalism’s distinctive sound keeps the album’s cohesion fully intact. This holds true across JPEG, as arpeggios and colossal synth patterns persist throughout the album.

Digitalism head out on a European tour in early-2020, starting in Amsterdam on February 6th and closing in Germany in late March. JPEG is released Magnetism, Digitalism’s own label.
