DJ Snake reveals Burna Boy collaboration 'No Option' was originally written for Rihanna
Ah, what could have been.
In a new interview with Apple Music‘s Zane Lowe, Parisian hitmaker DJ Snake revealed his July single alongside Burna Boy, “No Option” was originally intended for none other than Rihanna. The track’s distinct dancehall frame would have been the perfect backdrop for a Rihanna smash, but alas, the beat wound up finding a home on DJ Snake’s recently released sophomore LP, Carte Blanche. The reason “No Option” never turned into Rih’s next big hit? Simply put, DJ Snake just loved the beat too much to give it up. According to Snake,
“I made the beat in Paris last year… [Rihanna] wanted this record for a year and we ended up using it. You know because I fell in love with this record and I don’t know…I don’t want to say like the wrong things so all the Rihanna fans is going to kill me. I just had to follow my heart. That’s it.”
The Barbadian pop queen has been long at work on her hotly anticipated ninth LP. Over the last year, sources have signaled to a reggae/dancehall record on the way, with rumors suggesting Rihanna is sorting through as many as 500 songs for the album. Furthermore, Diplo, Skrillex, and Calvin Harris have all been tied to the elusive ninth album as well.
