EDEN releases highly anticipated debut studio LP, ‘vertigo’
There’s something simplistic and unique about rising producer EDEN. Perhaps it’s because he only uses lowercase lettering to title his tracks. Perhaps there’s something more substantive to his “less-is-more” appeal — like the fact that the 22-year-old singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist constructs compositions that are both transparent and subdued, yet wildly intense.
Dublin-native Jonathon Ng not only caught the attention of Lorde for his i think you think too much of me EP in 2016, but was also a featured vocalist on Illenium‘s enormously successful Awake LP last year. For fans who’ve been following the alt-pop artist since his End Credits EP, their anticipation can finally be put to bed with EDEN’s 13-track vertigo LP, out now on Astralwerks/Universal Music Group.
EDEN’s debut LP is sentimental and deeply moving, while remaining restrained and reticent. Featuring squeaky electronic synths, low-key acoustic elements, and emotionally raw vocals, vertigo is a minimalist manifesto in which the individual arrangements come together like poetry. The intimate quiet present in EDEN’s low-key production style shines in stand-out tracks like “take care,” “forever//over,” and “falling in reverse.” There is something honest, relevant, and real about EDEN’s body of work that renders listeners vulnerable and completely present.
Ultimately, EDEN wants nothing more than tell a story of the human condition; and he does so with the tenacity, grace, and life experience of someone well beyond his years.
Coupled with his debut album release, EDEN will be embarking on his Vertigo world tour this March.
