Eric Prydz re-enters remix ring with hypnotic rework of CamelPhat and Cristoph’s ‘Breathe’
Eric Prydz is back in action. The multi-alias entity has remained a particularly active agent in electronic circles, where he’s released a wealth of new material under his three flanking aliases, TONJA HOLMA, Cirez D, and Pryda. Each of Prydz’s three additional sonic identities have enjoyed further musical development of late. Cirez D dropped a new EP by the name of Dare U in 2018, the same year that Prydz would release another EP, Elements, as Pryda. Prior, Prydz conceived TONJA HOLMA in 2017 the debut of an EP that bore the same name as Prydz’s then newly minted alias.
While TONJA HOLMA, Cirez D, and Pryda spiked highs in terms of activity over the past two years, Eric Prydz has seldom debuted new music under his own name in this same timeframe. Now, Prydz’s period of silence comes to a close with the debut of an official remix of CamelPhat and Cristoph‘s entrancing Jem Cooke feature, “Breathe.” Staticky atmospheric tones comprise the opening seconds of Prydz’s take. Cooke’s vocal echoes with the same eerie potency evident on the original, to create a tantalizing effect. The melodic progressive tech house layers that Prydz adds in his remix comprise Prydz’s most intensive revisionary work, in the constructional context of the hypnotic original.
