American alias Far Out singlehandedly managed to craft an explosive mixture of sweet Future Bass and hard-hitting growls of Melodic Dubstep, enriched further with influences from Trance and Progressive House. I know, a lot of styles isn’t? His entrance into Ophelia records is delightful since it has brought superb collaborations and remixes to his discography.

With the uncovering of his new EP “Somewhere In Between”, I decided to review the concluding track “Start Over” with Danni Carra. The rest wasn’t any mundane either; the synergy with RIOT and Dvrkcloud were exquisite examples of Dubstep, while “Ultraviolet” featuring Leonard A was a stunner of a Trance experiment. At the end of the day, it was “Start Over” that caught my attention.

The structure holds a duality, not a surprise since Far Out and his colleagues tend to employ distinctive drops in their songs… the first half is a slow, relishing harmonic Melodic Dubstep segment, slowly escalating into a buzzing finish that implants Trance-y nuances.

Let’s not forget the other performer here, Danni Carra, who performs great. Even if I got distracted by the convoluted base accompanying her voice for the entire breakdown: never boring or sparse. The vocal gets put in the backdrop, but the inventive lyricism didn’t get lost amidst that.. so not a big deal to fuss about.

It was the very first drop that immediately bewildered me with its raw and sinew energy from the lead sound, exploding upon all of a sudden. It’s a wiry structure that passes by in a matter of seconds, although showing off its taut muscles! Afterwards, the “real” drop is the one with Trance-like peculiarities, which slowly gets introduced after a long build-up and ends on an emotional and satisfying note. I felt spiritually gratified after the first listening.

That’s top-notch EDM for you: “Start Over” and the EP containing it, are totally recommended for interested listeners!
