One of Dance music’s most beloved rappers passed away a few weeks ago. Fatman Scoop featured on numerous EDM tracks including Hardwell’s ‘Don’t Stop The Madness’. He shockingly collapsed at a concert in Connecticut. The state’s medical examiner’s office has released the cause of death for the iconic rapper and hype man.

The Connecticut Medical Examiner’s Office announced on September 25th that Scoop (born Isaac Freeman III) died due to hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. It was further determined no foul play was involved. At 56, this shocking death occurred at the Town Center Park in Hamden.

Medical personnel performed chest compressions on Freeman behind the DJ booth and then he was transferred to a local hospital. Hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease is a combination of high blood pressure and the hardening of the arteries that carry oxygen and nutrients from the heart to the rest of the body. It can be caused by high cholesterol, diabetes, obesity, and smoking.

On September 12th, Scoop’s friends, family, and the community gathered near the Harlem projects where he was raised at the Apollo Theater. Teddy Riley, Jim Jones, A$AP Ferg, Busta Rhymes, Kid Kapri, LL Cool J, and Angie Martinez were among those who paid tribute.
