First Listen: CRWNS adds horsepower to a Flume original on new 'High Beams' flip [Stream]
Fresh off a near year-long hiatus, CRWNS applies the heat of his re-imaginative touch to Flume‘s glitchy Hi This Is Flume inclusion, “High Beams.” The highly textured, forward thinking foray into percussive play unfurls at a languid pace in Flume’s original, as English rapper, slowthai, spits his verses.
CRWNS ups the ante, opting for a higher intensity take that sources much of its horsepower from the addition of trap leaning ascents and descents. Whereas these elements substitute some of the more idiosyncratic sonic bells and whistles that accent Flume’s production, slowthai’s fervent vocal contributions remain intact on CRWNS’ flip.
CRWNS’ preservation of this element won’t be surprising to those familiar with his hip-hop engaging approach to electronic production. CRWNS amplifies the low end to craft a bass exerting effort sure to send listeners in the direction of the replay button.
