Good Morning Mix: Throw it back with graves' 'Diplo & Friends' mix
Since releasing his debut EP, Hilo, in 2017, Honolulu native, graves has continued to climb the ranks of electronic music with his experimental edge and relentless mixing. Equipped with sound engineering capacity adept enough to him credits on Kanye West‘s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, graves has carved out a steadfast name for himself in recent years—managing to sell out his Far From Here tour, performing alongside What So Not, and collaborating with the likes of Boombox Cartel, RL Grime, and Flosstradamus.
It’s been almost two years since graves took his spin stylings to Diplo & Friends in an iconic mix that held back absolutely nothing. Throwing in everything from progressive to dubstep licks to trap heaters, graves’ mix brings together hip-hop, punk, and melodic structures into one curatorial display of electronic staple offerings and hand-picked edits alike. Channeling filth for the majority of the hour, the mix breathes new life into early EDM favorites from Flume‘s “You and Me” remix to Flosstradamus’ “Mosh Pit,” to Carnage‘s “Bricks,” while pushing hot selections from Travis Scott, Cardi B, and Post Malone, before a seamless segue into softer energy. Delving into the melodic realm, graves ends his time on the decks with expert back-to-back mashups, closing out beautifully with “Because of U” vs. “Hilo” vs. “In For the Kill.” Listen to graves’ Diplo & Friends mix below, thank us later.
