Habstrakt toes rugged sonic territory on riotous new single, 'Control'

When it comes to musical molds, leave the shattering to Habstrakt. Hardly one to shy from sonic experimentation, Habstrakt returns to the electronic release ring with “All Night” successor, “Control” in tow. As the reverberating, low-seated bass that “Control” wields suggests, “Control” is what Habstrakt defines as his “grungiest and dirtiest” production yet. The track is host to a gritty house aesthetic that derives much of its sharp edge from the chopped vocals and metallic synths that work together in a rugged fashion.

“Control” is the product of Habstrakt’s warlike vision of the cut: The artist cites “the smell of burnt cars and tear gas” as the track’s two central sensory inspirations in a press release. “Control” straddles drum ‘n’ bass and UK house, to merge sub-genres with decided flippancy on the single, which Habstrakt proclaims to be “a middle finger to anything predictable and repetitive.”

“Control” is out now CONFESSION.
