Helena Hauff has released a new double single from her forthcoming album, Qualm, out Aug. 3 on Ninja Tune.
Entitled “Hyper-Intelligent Genetically Enriched Cyborg” and “It Was All Fields Around Here When I Was A Kid,” the raw analog-leaning double single follows Ninja Tune’s recent release of a short film and mysterious new white label vinyl that sold out within 24 hours of release.
“Hyper-Intelligent Genetically Enriched Cyborg” sounds exactly like one might imagine an intelligent robot would communicate; cerebral and glowing with anticipated knowledge and expansiveness of the world it exists in. It’s an aqueous track that escalates in anticipation as if it were made to score a Ridley Scott film. “It Was All Fields Around Here When I Was A Kid” is equally cinematic, though it delivers an uneasy feeling of doubt, worry, and fear.
Hauff’s new album Qualm derives its title from the German word kvalm, which translates as fumes or smoke, whilst the English meaning literally refers to an uneasy feeling of doubt, worry, or fear.
Qualm is out Aug. 3 Ninja Tune.
