It's here: RL Grime staggers shiver-inducing drops in 'Halloween VIII' [Stream] – EDM All Day

Since 2012, each installment in the Halloween sonic saga has reaffirmed what was established eight years ago with the seminal mix in the series: All Hallow’s Eve belongs to RL Grime.

The trap tastemaker’s Halloween tradition hasn’t just gained traction in the time since its initial launch—it’s cultivated a cult following. Each October, electronic music enthusiasts train and fixate their eyes on the fateful calendar square, bearing the annual promise of new RL Grime music: October 31. Name a more reliable treat—we’ll wait.

For the past eight years, the NOVA producer has soundtracked Halloween with mixes that manifest as heavy hybrids of hip-hop and trap selections. Ample in sonic horsepower and jam-packed with adrenaline-spiking, goosebump-inciting bass, RL Grime’s Halloween mixes are potent demonstrations of his curative acumen.

The predecessor to 2019’s Halloween VIII mix, Halloween VII commenced with an eerie vocal introduction from Shaq before ultimately segueing into its constituting collection of rap and electronic crossover cuts. The newest addition to the spectral series is the subwoofer-worthy Halloween 8, which affords the opening honors to a figure matched in repute by Halloween: Mayor of Flavortown, Guy Fieri.

With a convictional exclamation (“love, peace, and taco grease”), Fieri kicks off the hotly anticipated effort. As in prior years of Halloween’s production, the Halloween VIII listening experience ought not to be a passive one for streamers, whose ears should be pricked for RL Grime IDs.

The bass purveyor has been known to embed unreleased music within his Halloween mixes, in a not-so-subtle preview of the productions yet to come. Case in point, 2016’s Halloween V, which provided the platform for an advance listen of RL Grime’s collaboration with Skrillex and What So Not, “Waiting.” Grime went on to formally release the single several days later on November 3, 2016.

Riddled with IDs, including an especially titillating Whethan-RL rendezvous, Halloween VIII is indeed RL Grime’s seasonal treat to listeners.
