Jamie xx Returns with Dynamic Third Album In Waves, Showcasing Evolution and Energy
James Thomas Smith, better known as his stage name Jamie xx, the internationally renowned DJ and producer, released his highly anticipated third album In Waves today (Sept. 20, 2024) through his label, Young Records. The follow-up to 2015’s In Colour, the new album is described by the label as “a lot more current and about now.”
With over two decades in the electronic music scene, Jamie xx’s latest work reflects a deeper sense of maturity, both in sound and in live performances at major festivals like Pitchfork and Lollapalooza Brazil, as well as in his curated event series, ‘The Floor.’ Announcing the release on Instagram, Jamie xx shared his excitement:
“My album, In Waves, is out now.
I can’t quite believe it, I spent every flicker of energy I had finishing this record. I am soo psyched for people to hear it in full. Thank you so much to all of you for sticking with me after all this time, I am immensely grateful for this day and everyone who has helped me along the way.
Love Jamie xx”
The 12-track album showcases Jamie xx’s signature ability to bridge genres. Tracks like “Life,” featuring Robyn, dive into pop territory, while the Honey Dijon collaboration “Baddy On The Floor” delivers a tech-disco vibe. Jamie xx reunites with his xx bandmates, Romy Madley Croft and Oliver Sim, on the electro-house cut “Waited All Night.” The high-energy track “All You Children,” featuring Australian electronic group The Avalanches, is poised to light up dance floors worldwide.
After months of teasing fans with singles, In Waves has emerged as one of the year’s most anticipated releases, continuing Jamie xx’s reputation for creating club-ready anthems. The album dropped just days after Jamie xx began his tour on September 18, and while he only has his internal dates and select music festival appearances on the schedule, we are sure on the look-out for more dates (and music) to come!
