Kanye West re-announces release date for ninth studio album, 'Jesus is King'
After months of delays and the subsequent pivot away from the highly anticipated Yandhi LP, Kanye West has once again locked in a new release date for his ninth studio album, Jesus is King. The gospel album will now be delivered Friday, Oct. 25. West tweeted a picture of the LP pressed onto a blue vinyl and its accompanying delivery date on Monday, Oct. 21.
Originally scheduled for release on Sept. 27 following an event called “Jesus is King: A Kanye West Experience” in Detroit, the album drop was pushed back two days for final adjustments, but failed to materialize. The Detroit event featured a screening of an exclusive film titled Jesus is King and a playback of the album. The film will be released worldwide Oct. 25 in collaboration with IMAX and include tracks from West’s new album as well.
West will allegedly only make gospel music from this point forward, according to a source at the Detroit listening event. The statement perhaps comes as no surprise given the rapper’s recent activities performing with his Sunday Service shows and musical direction towards the gospel space.
