EG: Hi, Karry! Welcome to EG. It’s a pleasure to have you here with us. How have you been? What have you been up to?

Karry G: Hey Electronic Groove, thanks for having me! I’m doing well, working on new music, writing songs and tracks, and preparing amazing sets.

EG: First of all, congratulations on the recent release of your latest EP, ‘Shadow’! How are you feeling about this one now that it’s out? What has the initial reception been like so far?

Karry G: Thank you! ‘Shadow’ is a special release to me. It was written at the end of winter when it was snowing, there was mud all over the place, and it was very cold. I was out in nature and I had that growing feeling that spring was about to come, so I wanted to capture that mood in the tracks! Now it turns out we’re releasing it at the very beginning of spring. That’s just how I wanted to break into the new season as much as possible, like coming to life.

Every time I release new music, I start to worry because I’m trying to get feedback from fans, colleagues, from friends when they hear it. That’s always an emotional moment. The first reviews were positive though, people would DM me, thanking me for the music, for this release.

EG: So, what’s ‘Shadow’ all about? Is there a concept to this EP? What can your fans expect to find music-wise on ‘Shadow’?

Karry G: ‘Shadow’ is a mini-album with three completely different tracks. From maximum club sound to dance vocals, you can choose what you like. There’s something for everyone.

EG: You have just started releasing your own music back in 2023, but can already claim a handful of EPs. How did you get into music production? How would you describe your journey as a producer so far?

Karry G: There’s a sound producer in my team, and the good news is that our musical likes and vision of music agree with him. Any idea that comes to me, we discuss it with him, in the studio, check our opinions, and then do a track. I’ve always dreamed of making my own music, I didn’t dare for a long time, and it just so happened that finally in 2023 everything worked out. The stars aligned, and now it’s time to make my dream a reality, which I’m very happy about!

EG: And now you’ve started to also sing on your records! How did this come about? Have you taken classes before or have any previous experience? What advice would you give to anyone who might be afraid of, or shy about singing on their own records?

Karry G: For as long as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to sing, I’m a big fan of beautiful voices like Adele, Sia. The only thing was to put it all together. And as you can see now, it worked out.  You have Karry G, the vocal DJ. A girl who plays and sings her own tracks.

EG: We now know how you got started as a producer…but how did you get started as a DJ? Do you remember your first interactions with electronic dance music? What did the scene in Kyiv look like when you first started to go out?

Karry G: How I got into electronic music? It all started with Armin Van Buuren. Those were the golden times for trance music, the era of  ‘In and out of love’ that I fell in love with. It was open air on the Dnipro, the clubs in Kyiv, where many great local and world DJs played. Then there were nights in the legendary clubs of Ibiza. Great shows of such artists as Boris Brejcha, Paul Van Dyk, Tiesto. That’s what inspired me back then.

The electronic scene in Ukraine at that time was, I would say, vibrant and diverse. From electro house, which was super popular at the time, to dubstep, techno, and minimal. But trance was the king at that moment. You could choose the gig you wanted and lose yourself on the dance floor on a weekend.

EG: Speaking about the scene, what do you think the future of electronic dance music looks like?

Karry G: What I’d say is what I would not want. I would not want the visual part of the show to take over the music. Let’s not forget the other thing, too: we come to the party to dance and express ourselves, to have a little time for us, not to be plugged into the phone.

EG: It being such a hot topic, how do you feel about the recent implementation of AI in the creative side of music? Have you used any form of AI in your recent creations?

Karry G: I personally haven’t used AI, It’s very impressive, technologically. Yet I believe that music is about people expressing themselves, for better or worse the AI is not capable of that.

“We’re not afraid to experiment”

EG: Finally, can you provide some insights into what’s next for Karry G. What can we expect from you in the coming months? Where can your fans catch you next?

Karry G: I got a new release coming out next month, on May 17th: Club bangers, just what you need for the summertime. We’re also working on new music. The new stuff will be totally different. We’re not afraid to experiment. We will be trying some new sounds and put it all together in tracks that will blow you away.

EG: Thank you so much for your time, Karry! See you on the dancefloor!

Karry G: Thanks! Will be waiting for you!
