Kygo reinstates his tropical house prowess with the help of Chelsea Cutler on 'Not Ok'
Making his the third consecutive appearance in the first five months of 2019, tropical house sentinel Kygo is retaking the reins at the forefront of the tropical house subgenre on his latest offering, “Not Ok” with singer-songwriter Chelsea Cutler.
Graceful guitar plucks held in the undertone of Cutler’s calming words set the pace for a shimmering summer production that unravels into the Norwegian producer’s banner tropical identity. Kygo brings forth elegant piano chords and another compelling melodic lead that is stylistically reminiscent of his earlier output from his debut album, Cloud Nine. The pairing provides an empathetic message about relationships, and ultimately, their demise, as Cutler concedes to a feeling of dejection across the lyrics in ‘Not Ok’.
The sultry creation follows Kygo’s addition to the upcoming soundtrack of the highly-anticipated Pokémon: Detective Pikachu movie as he joined Rita Ora for, “Carry On.” As Kygo continues to blur dance-pop boundaries, fans can only fantasize of an upcoming LP that could hopefully be on the horizon.
