Major Lazer recruit Marcus Mumford for laid back folk crossover, 'Lay Your Head On Me' [Watch]
Major Lazer has always been a highly collaborative project, meshing the group’s island-inspired brand of dancehall with a range of different collaborators, from DJ Snake and Justin Bieber to Pharrell Williams and J Balvin. Joining those ranks next is Mumford & Sons frontman Marcus Mumford on the group’s latest, ‘Lay Your Head On Me.” This time wading into Momford’s folk territory, Major Lazer turn in another easy-listening crossover work that’s bound for repeated listens.
Diplo, Walshy Fire, and Ape Drums provide a peaceful backdrop of tranquil guitar chords and swaying percussion arrangements that intertwine with Mumford’s instantly recognizable register and shimmering backup vocals. Far from the Major Lazer that put together “Hold The Line” and more in tune with something like “Cold Water‘s” pop appeal, the dancehall trio’s upcoming new album, which could be their last, prove Major Lazer are still developing their sound in new ways, even after all these years.
