Multi-instrumentalist and electronic music innovator Mathew Jonson returns to Crosstown Rebels with his latest EP entitled ‘Tako Tako’.
The EP opens with the title track, showcasing Jonson’s signature blend of elegant synth lines and dynamic melodies. This track infuses futuristic energy and vibrant colors into its crunchy beats. The B-side, ‘Just a Little Bit’, features a jostling broken beat, warm bassline, and wordless vocal samples. It’s funky, kinetic, and constantly evolving.
In Jonson’s own words, the title ‘Tako Tako’ carries special significance: “In Japanese, tako’ (タコ) refers to both the octopus as an animal and as food. Unlike in English, where beef is the food and cow is the animal, Japanese often uses the same word for both. So, tako is used whether you’re talking about the living octopus or a dish made from it. I stopped eating tako 23 years ago when I realized they have significant spiritual importance, not only here on Earth but also across the entire galaxy.”
