MGMT debut new track 'Me And Michael' with surreal video – EDM All Day

Just days before the release their long-awaited new LP, , have shared the album’s fourth single, “Me And Michael.” The new album was produced by Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser themselves, who enlisted the help  Dave Fridmann the The Flaming Lips and Patrick Wimberly  synth pop duo Chairlift to co-produce.

“Me And Michael” itself is a synth pop wonderland, with floating reverb and hollowed out vocals galore. With less introspective quandary in both the lyrics (“Me and Michael / Solid as they come”) and overall tone, the duo can bask in the sonic bliss art for art’s sake.

Accompanying the track is the hyberbolic, far out ficial video. Filled with meat phones, grim reaper-esque talk show hosts, and manic banjo players, it depicts MGMT as they attain insta-stardom after stealing a Filipino band True Faith’s song. Through the story, which is resolved through True Faith telling MGMT that the song “doesn’t belong to anybody,” the “Time To Pretend” twosome seem to be sharing their sentiments on the hotly debated issues plagiarism and copyright infringement.
