Ultra Music Festival organizers put forth a proposal to host the competition on Virginia Key, transferring the competition from its unique Bayfront Park location 10 minutes away. The proposal was delivered to a vote on November 15 on the Miami City Council within the midst of opposition from Rapture Music Festival and residents of Key Biscayne.
The council accredited Ultra’s proposal to maneuver the music competition to Miami Marine Stadium and Historic Virginia Key Beach Park in Virginia Key after three hours of contentious deliberation and a vote. There was a Four-1 vote in favor of the transfer, with two council members on the sting of a “sure” vote.
In the deal, Ultra has to pay $2 million to the town of Miami with the intention to promote as much as 60,000 tickets to the competition. The contract will keep in place for 2 years, with the opportunity of revocation inside 60 days after the competition if sure circumstances happen.
