Micheal Jackson may forever be hailed as The King Of Pop, but Thriller has recently been announced second in line to the throne in US album sales.

According to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), Jackson’s world famous Thriller, which has gone a staggering 33-times platinum is now second in command to the Eagles‘ first compilation album, Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975. The group’s 38-times platinum has assumed the title of all-time bestselling album in the US. Be that as it may, MJ’s Thriller remains the best-selling album worldwide. Since the streaming and digital download takeover of the last decade forced emphasis away from direct sales, the RIAA’s new calculations now take those methods into account, with 1500 streams of an album or 10 song downloads equating one album sale.

This isn’t Their Greatest Hits first go at the top spot either. The last time the RIAA calculated the album’s sales in 2006, it catapulted to No. 1. However, Thriller surged ahead once more in 2009 following Jackson’s death.
