MSTRKRFT release surprise single, 'City Violence,' on new ORO Records label

Masters of going underground and then storming back onto the scene, Jesse Keeler and Al-P of Canadian electronic duo MSTRKRFT return with their first track since the 2016 release of their studio album Operator. Before Operator, MSTRKRFT went deep into a five-year silence, even wiping their social media presence before hinting at an impending album after a long lull. On May 3, they dropped surprise single “City Violence” on their newly active label, ORO. The dance-punk act’s label has consistently put out new music since January and promises new releases every month with “City Violence” as its first of the month.

“City Violence” brings together a glitchy ensemble underlined by hypnotic percussion and distorted vocals in a lengthy structure of six minutes. Amped with distortion and heavy noise, the track echoes a departure from their previous electro roots and into a harder tech-house sound.
