Paul van Dyk showcases iconic Roland TR-808 at Synthesizer Museum Berlin

Legendary electronic music pioneer Paul van Dyk has placed his personal Roland TR-808 on exhibit at the Synthesizer Museum Berlin, where it will be showcased for the next year.

Used to shape some of his most influential productions — including the iconic ‘For An Angel’ — Paul’s 808 has long been a core part of his studio setup. The instrument not only represents his roots in electronic music but also marks the evolution of his sound across decades of innovation and experimentation.

“This Roland 808 has been with me since the early days; it’s more than just a machine, it’s a part of my musical journey. From ‘For An Angel’ to countless other tracks, its beat helped shape my sound. I’m proud to lend it to Synthesizer Museum Berlin, where it can inspire the next generation of producers just like it inspired me,”  van Dyk shared.

The exhibit stands as both a celebration of Paul van Dyk’s legacy and a tribute to a drum machine that helped define electronic music itself. For visitors, it offers a rare, tangible connection to the early tools that shaped the genre’s sound.
