The music industry mourns the loss of a pioneering figure in the drum and bass scene, Randall McNeil, widely known as DJ Randall. His representative confirmed that the influential British DJ passed away at the age of 54 on July 31st, 2024. While the official cause of death has not yet been disclosed, the news has sent shockwaves throughout the music community.
DJ Randall rose to prominence in the 1990s alongside Fabio and Grooverider. He started on pirate radio stations like Rave FM and Rinse FM, gaining recognition . In 1996, Randall co-founded Mac2 Recordings with Cool Hand Flex after De-Underground Records closed. He also performed at The Blue Note Club with artists like Goldie and DJ Storm. Randall’s influence in drum and bass is profound, inspiring artists like Andy C and Nia Archives.
His passion for vinyl and exposure to acid house at the 1987 Notting Hill Carnival led to his distinct breakbeat hardcore style, earning him a dedicated following on pirate radio. By 1989, he had a regular spot on Centreforce, cementing his status in music.
DJ Randall’s contributions to music, particularly in the drum and bass genre, will be remembered and celebrated for years to come.
