REOS – Awakening

• Unusual assortment of samples
• Tranceroom‌ (Trance + Big Room) scheme
• Experimental and independent attitude

Despite an upcoming management change that leaves many doubts about Loca‘s undetermined future, its rich catalog continues to deliver EDM gems like “Awakening“. The creator,‌ REOS, is a young Italian creator with a couple of releases on minor labels such as (Outrave and The Million Shades). His Tranceroom is terribly fascinating, and with this great release, I’m convinced that we will hear about him again… So much potential.

Tranceroom“, brought to its heyday by W&W/NWYR‌ and perfected by veterans of the genre such as Maurice‌ West and SaberZ, is widely popular in the underground EDM‌ subculture. Many artists are being creative with it, often ending up with great results… However, considering the strict boundaries of this genre, chance of hearing something “out of the box”‌ is improbably low. “Awakening” tries with juvenile optimism to experiment with different shapes of the tranceroom box: REOS played with this Rubik’s cube and popped out a new, colorful fascinating combination.

Let’s start with the vocal: ethnic vibes are infused by this delicate element, and one couldn’t expect to hear such different vibes altogether… From one side, “Awakening” adopts a relaxing “zen” mentality, but then reminds us that this is a festival weapon. I love being surprised, and the constant shape-shifting approach used by REOS‌ impacted. After the surprising breakdown, the drop delights the listener with an energetic tranceroom sequenced blueprints. Also here the Italian producer managed to leave his signature: the melody. Despite being a bit dispersive in my opinion, follows an intricate pattern and that united with the choices of the fills, presents a characteristic tonality.

Concluding, “Awakening” tries to distinguish itself from the mass, and reached its goal, delivering what required. The drop’s melody felt slightly outsized for my standards, however, REOS is certainly in the right direction for developing a distingué Tranceroom style, leaving us much hopes about his future!
