Nine music venues in Victoria have joined forces for a new trial against sexual harassment.

The 12-week program has been put in place by the Victorian Government to eradicate sexual harassment in Melbourne’s nightlife, something that Victoria Police Senior Sergeant Brett Meadows explained to the is still “widely underreported”.

He said “people can be walking through venues, they’ll be groped, they spin around, they don’t know who it was. They don’t see the point in reporting it. Others are embarrassed by it. So most the time it’s just not reported, which is why this particular project is so good.”

Among the nine venues included in the roll out the program are popular live music venues and Revolver Upstairs, The Corner Hotel, Howler, The Tf In Town and The Gasometer. See the full list below:

  • The Corner Hotel: Richmond
  • Howler: Brunswick
  • Revolver Upstairs: Prahran
  • The Tf in Town: CBD
  • The Gasometer: Collingwood
  • The Croxton Bandroom: Thornbury
  • The Chelsea Heights Hotel: Chelsea Heights
  • The Workers Club: Geelong
  • Karova Lounge: Ballarat

The program was given $200,000 funding from the Victorian Government, and upon completion will be assessed by an independent expert. From here, Creative Industries Minister Martin Foley hopes a state wide roll-out the program will follow.

Victoria, proving once again you’re the best state in Aus!
