RÜFÜS DU SOL to present 360-degree short film at Coachella, 'Underwater'

RÜFÜS DU SOL to present 360-degree short film at Coachella, ‘Underwater’

RÜFÜS DU SOL will expand their artistry beyond just the stage during Coachella 2019’s consecutive weekends. In addition to performing at each of the California festival’s two weekends, the alternative electronic group will also present their new 360-degree film, Underwater. Directed by James Frost, the visual shares the name of SOLACE album inclusion, “Underwater,” the second single released on RÜFÜS DU SOL’s third studio album. Frost is notable for his prior work on Radiohead‘s music video for “House of Cards,” and OK GO‘s “This Too Shall Pass.”

The “Lost In My Mind” trio will debut the production at Coachella’s 11,000 square-foot Antarctic Projection Dome. Devised by HP Inc., the dome is the largest structure in the world of its kind. The geodesic dome is the product of cutting edge technology that enables forward thinking artistic expression. Underwater is a creative endeavor well-suited for an inaugural screening in the Dome, given the short film’s 360-degree format, and its implementation of hi-definition imagery sourced from graphic artists around the world.

“RÜFÜS DU SOL and I have been trying to collaborate for awhile, so when the opportunity arose to create the visual accompaniment to ‘Underwater’ for the HP Antarctic Dome at Coachella, I couldn’t think of a more perfect song and I knew we could create something magical,” Frost said in a press release. “‘Underwater’ is rich with layers, and the piece we’ve created immerses the audience visually and sonically in this expansive dome setting,” Frost added.

RÜFÜS DU SOL will supplement Underwater with a DJ set, and a panel discussion that contemplates technology’s ability to augment the affective power of music. Underwater will first screen on April 11, during an exclusive Coachella VIP event, and will be available for general viewing thereafter.
