Skepta stages phoneless 'future of rave' performance with new events concept

Skepta and Manchester International Festival (MIF) are collaborating to produce a series of phoneless events, called Dystopia987. The UK grime deity also teamed up with the creative studio TEM, that specializes in emerging technologies and the playwright Dawn King.

These events look to take play in railway arches accessible an abandoned warehouse in Manchester to mimic a journey to a dystopian society where there are no phones and digital decor is present. The patrons will be provided with headphones upon entry as they move through the experience with a performance from Skepta at the end.

The artist who recently released his Ignorance Is Bliss LP said on Instagram, “Had an idea to take everybody’s phone away and throw them into a world where we Rave to come together, dance and free ourselves from the pressures of society.”
