Fresh from a string of groove-heavy releases and an evolving collaborative journey with Producer and DJ Shawn Jackson, Colombian-born, Lima-based artist Sofi Moon is carving out a distinct space on the Electronic Music scene. Following her debut ‘WHOA’ EP, and singles like ‘Dance All Night’ and ‘El Lazo’, she continues to build a discography that reflects an Artist in motion – both in the evolution of her sound and place within the genre. As she blends Latin-infused rhythms with Tech House sensibilities, percussive edge, and a growing vocal presence, she shapes a creative identity that upholds energy and originality, putting forward tracks that embody her vision and direction ahead.

Now, we catch up with Sofi Moon to take a look behind the scenes of her recent releases, explore the artistic synergy driving her collaborations, and hear what’s next in her journey.

Hi Sofi Moon! How are you?

Hi! I’m doing great – I’m in a very special phase as an artist. Every release reflects not only what I want to bring to the dancefloor, but also the growth I’ve experienced working side by side with Shawn Jackson. His experience producing Electronic Music hits and my creative vision have blended more efficiently over time. This creative journey makes me feel happy and motivated to keep exploring new sounds and emotions.

Let’s take it back to the beginning — how did your creative relationship with Shawn Jackson first come about?

I met Shawn through connections in the scene, and from the first conversation, there was a very clear creative chemistry. We share the same vision of groove, energy, and how to make a track really move people. Right away, I understood that he could take my ideas, my concept of “vibe,” and my artistic intent, and turn them into powerful, professional productions. Working together felt natural from day one, and with every project, our creative connection grows stronger.

With your debut ‘WHOA’ EP, what was most important to you in terms of the creative vision you wanted to put forward? As your first official release, what did you hope to showcase to listeners about your sound and artistic direction?

For me, ‘WHOA’ was a calling card, but also a first test of what we could achieve as a team. I came in with the idea of an urban Latin vibe packed with groove and energy, and Shawn brought that to life with precise arrangements, powerful rhythmic layers, and a sound that connects. I wanted people to understand that my music is about energy, connection, and authenticity — made to be felt and danced to.

‘WHOA’ felt like a strong statement of intent – what did the process of creating that EP teach you about your artistic identity and voice?

The process taught me that my strength lies in fusing my Latin influences with a solid Tech House structure. It also showed me the value of working with a producer who understands the dancefloor — how to build tension, release energy, and keep the audience engaged. Shawn and I kept bouncing ideas back and forth, and every technical tweak enhanced the emotion I was trying to express.

You followed the EP with ‘Dance All Night’. How did the creative process differ for that track? Was it easier or more instinctive having already built chemistry with Shawn?

It was a much smoother process. We already knew how to communicate, how to translate my vision into production decisions, and how to use his experience to take the ideas to the next level. That allowed us to take more risks — experimenting with different percussion and synth combinations and crafting a more elaborate build-up. With every release, we cross genres and explore new textures, which makes each project a unique journey.

Your tracks carry bold energy and club-ready momentum — how do you approach crafting the rhythmic and percussive layers that drive that power?

For me, rhythm is the heart of every track. I start by imagining how I want people to move — whether it’s a groove that locks them in or a punchier pattern that instantly lifts the energy. I describe the feel, accents, and swing I hear in my head, and then Shawn brings that vision to life with precise percussion programming, layering textures and dynamics that make it all come alive. His experience producing club tracks means he knows exactly how to balance power and groove, so the rhythm not only drives the track but keeps the crowd connected from start to finish.

With ‘El Lazo’, you introduced your own vocals for the first time. What inspired that decision, and how did it shift your approach in the studio?

I felt it was time to leave a more personal mark, and Shawn fully supported that decision. Using my own voice and lyrics allowed me to express emotions more directly, and he knew how to integrate them, so they worked with the groove and energy of the track. It was an experience that opened up new creative possibilities and made me more aware of my ability to be not just a DJ and producer, but also a performer.

There’s a strong undercurrent of Latin groove throughout your music. How do your cultural roots influence your sound, and in what ways do you like to bring that into your productions?

My Colombian roots are very present in the way I feel and structure music. Shawn understood that from the beginning and incorporated it strategically – fusing Latin rhythmic patterns and percussion with a modern electronic approach. That cultural and technical blend is a central part of our sonic identity as a team.

Are there any tools, plug-ins, or production techniques that have become signature parts of your workflow?

Definitely. Since working with Shawn, I’ve gotten much more involved in the DAW and learned to use tools that are now essential to my process. We use high-quality drum libraries for authentic Latin percussion, along with processing plug-ins like FabFilter and Soundtoys to shape the sound and add character. For bass and leads, synths like Serum and Sylenth1 are key, and we often create custom effect chains to give each track its own unique identity. I’ve also learned to develop a hook early in the process — usually the element we build the track around — and Shawn’s guidance has been invaluable in turning those hooks into something powerful and memorable on the dancefloor.

Finally, what’s coming up next for you? Can we expect more collaborations, new projects, or solo material in the months ahead?

There’s a lot of new music on the way, exploring deeper and more melodic sounds without losing that essential groove. There will be more collaborations where the fusion between my vision and Shawn’s experience continues to evolve, as well as solo tracks that reflect everything I’ve learned from working with him. Every project is a chance to blend genres and surprise the audience — and that’s what’s driving me the most right now.

With each release, Sofi Moon continues to develop, guided by instinct and artistic curiosity, she works to offer versatility, depth, and grooves suitable for the dancefloor. As she looks ahead to future collaborations and solo projects, she is sustaining the excitement and promise of this next phase — one where energy meets personal expression in full force.
