Sónar Festival 2019 will feature a 3D audiovisual experience
As if more than 130 live performances wasn’t enough, Sónar Festival 2019 recently announced plans for an interactive, 3D experience for this year’s installment. Founded in 1994, the annual Barcelona-based festival is renowned for its unique displays of music, art, and technology. The three-day festival shakes things up with the additions of new features each year, with this go-around proving to be the most innovative edition of Sónar yet.
An enveloping 3D dome that is 19 meters in diameter is being built as part of the festival’s technology-based area known as Sónar+D. The dome will feature interstellar views and interactive audio experiences alike, curated by artists from all over the globe. Electronic artist Holly Herndon, having recently released her PROTO album, will be present alongside partner Mat Dryhurst with a piece called “Chain Opera,” which will combine AI and the human voice.
The full 3D experience is set to last throughout the festival’s entirety. Head here for more info on what Sónar+D has in store this year.
Sónar Festival 2019 will take place from July 18 – July 20, with a genre-blended lineup including A$AP Rocky, Disclosure, Snakehips, Ross From Friends, and more. Check out their website for tickets.
