Non-profit collective [sounds*different] introduces [space 001], a week-long creative retreat in Bali, Indonesia, from November 24–30, 2024. This event aims to support underrepresented artists in electronic music.
[space 001] offers emerging artists an opportunity to develop their skills, network, and explore new musical directions in a supportive environment. The retreat features mentorship from global artists, top-notch production facilities, collaborative sessions, workshops on various aspects of the industry, and luxury accommodation. Mentors include Eluize (Australia), Trixie (UK), Baby Weight (US), and Moss (Australia).
Founder Bo Percival states, “We believe that equity grows from two seeds: opportunity and connection, The [spaces] project aims to dismantle core barriers and amplify atypical sounds drowned out by the typical majority. We want to support artists held at the edges and the intersections to break into and break through the electronic music scene”
The retreat concludes with a graduation party showcasing participants’ work, potentially launching new careers in electronic music.
[sounds*different] ensures accessibility by sponsoring or subsidizing half the spots. The organization raised nearly $25,000 in its first year through a hybrid social enterprise model.
