Squarepusher shares rework of 'Midi Sans Frontières' ahead of forthcoming EP [Stream]
As the year unfolds, Tom Jenkinson continues his momentum as electronica innovator Squarepusher with an avalanche of new music and impending world tour. After breaking his five-year hiatus with the release of album Be Up A Hello, the English producer jointly announced his forthcoming EP Lamental and shared its lead track, “Midi Sans Frontières (Avec Batterie).” The single is a rework of Jenkinson’s 2016 track “MIDI Sans Frontières” which saw its composition as a response to the Brexit referendum.
Jenkinson’s new “Avec Batterie” rendition features an old-school inspired breakbeat that fuses ambient and glitch together. The original version also appears on the Lamental track listing as well as Be Up A Hello offering “Detroit People Mover.”
“The score and recorded stems of ‘MIDI Sans Frontières’ were made available to all, encouraging remixers to participate as a form of ‘internationalist collaboration with sound makers, irrespective of what kind of music they make, where they live, their background or their age,’” writes Jenkinson.
Lamental will be released on April 10 Warp Records.
